About NMTC

NMTC (National Mathematics Talent Contests) is led by AMT (The Association of Mathematics Teachers of India).

Objective of examination: It is to search and support young and talented student who has ability to think something different and innovative for a better future. They are so different that they can solve critical problems showing a general numerical capacity properly to their level.

List of awards under NMTC

  1. Rank 1 Award: Rs. 5000 as cash + Merit certificate
  2. Rank 2 Award: Rs. 2500 as cash + Merit certificate
  3. Rank 2 Award: Rs. 1250 as cash + Merit certificate
  4. Another finalised students: Some cash + Merit certificate

Stages of NMTC

Examination is conducted in 2 stages:

  • Preliminary Test

Under this phase of the test, the objective type of questions having multiple choices will be there for the students. It will also consist of fill in the blanks type of questions. Students will write the answer in the response sheet and then AMTI will provide the result. Only 10% of the students will be eligible for the final test.

  • Final Test

This test is for the 10% of students who have cleared preliminary test. The questions will be of essay type and this exam will be conducted at the specific centres of states decided by the AMTI.

Note: Senior Level understudies (advanced education level) will take just the last test.

 

Eligibility                                                                                                                                                                                       

Students must belong to the school or junior colleges of different board, technology Institutions, and graduation colleges. This must also include the schools affiliated from CBSE board.

  1. Primary section named as Gauss Contest. It is for students of V and VI class
  2. Sub-junior section named as Kaprekar Contest. It is for students of VII and VIII class.
  3. Junior section named as Bhaskara Contest. It is for students of IX and X Class.
  4. Senior Section named as Aryabhata Contest. It is for students of Degree Classes in Arts, Science & Technical Colleges

Note*: The test will be conducted in a different medium and they are English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi or Tamil. This medium of exam is valid till present. In case of new update, it will be disclosed on the official website. For the senior level of exam, the medium of exam will be English only.

 

Exam Details

  • Preliminary Exam will be going to be help at their particular school or centre students have filled for.
  • Students apply individually at the official website of the AMTI and there will be the proper intimation of the exam to the students
  • For the Final exam, AMTI will be responsible for the allotment of the centres
  • Students belonging to the senior section can attempt an exam in English medium only. While other section students have large number of option for the language selection.

 

Syllabus

The detailed syllabus for the NMTC is:

  • Algebra: Polynomials, Solving equations, inequalities and complex numbers
  • Geometry: Geometry of triangles and circles. (Trigonometric methods, vector methods, complex number methods, transformation geometry methods)
  • Number Theory: Divisibility, Diophantine equations, congruence relations, prime numbers and elementary results on prime numbers.
  • Graph theory and combinatory: Counting techniques, pigeon hole principle, the principle of inclusion and exclusion, basic graph theory

Registration

  • For registration, students have to visit the nearest school or centre of NMTC
  • If any student apply for the exam by itself, he/she will be eligible when they will send an acceptance letter from a teacher / Principal / Professor – serving or retired to hold the exam

Important Dates

Important events and tentative schedule:

  • Stage-1 Examination: In the month of August/September
  • Stage-2 Result: After one week of examination
  • Stage-3 Examination: In the month of November
  • Stage-4 Result Declaration: In the month of December
