HOW TO AVOID NEGATIVE MARKING IN YOUR IIT-JEE EXAM?

Are you ready to attempt JEE Mains this year? Thinking about the paper how it will be and anxious about the negative marking? Well you should be. Even if you prepare best for your final exam you can lose marks because of negative marking. It is necessary to avoid negative marking in your JEE Mains paper to secure the top rank. For this you have to follow certain strategies and tricks and attempt your paper with proper concentration. The blog will guide you with some of the best tips to avoid negative marking in your JEE Mains paper.

Follow these 7 tricks listed below to get the best results in your final exam.

Before we look at the ways to avoid negative marking in your IIT-JEE mains exam, let’s understand why the concept of negative marking was introduced in the examination.

JEE Mains exam has a system of penalising students with negative marks. The negative marking system is introduced to conduct fair examinations where students do not indulge in guesswork to maximize scores.  In JEE Mains, one-fourth of the total marks of the question is deducted as negative marking, if attempted incorrectly. Do not attempt a question unless you are sure about the answer. It will decrease your overall score.

TIPS TO AVOID NEGATIVE MARKING IN THE EXAM-

AVOID MARKING THE WRONG OPTION

You will notice all the options are the same and have similar values with only the units different. Sometimes the answer only differs in the number zero. This simply means that you have to be cautious while you are marking the answer. Mark the correct answer and do not waste your time if you are not sure about the answer.

DO NOT MISREAD THE QUESTION

Often, students are in so much hurry to finish off the paper early that they misread the questions. And, when they misread any of the question, they land up choosing the wrong question which results in negative marking. Like, a question asking you to mark the incorrect answer, and you mark the correct one for it. So, read the question carefully and mark the correct answer.

AVOID SILLY MISTAKES

Students make silly mistakes and lose their marks in the exam because of anxiety or carelessness. Some of the students are in a hurry to finish the paper and this leads to silly mistakes by them.

MANAGE YOUR TIME WELL

Better time management is one of the crucial points to keep in mind to avoid negative marking in the IIT-JEE exam. You can manage for your exam at your preparation time by solving mock tests. Appearing for mock tests will help you in forming a strategy of attempting the paper in the given time limit. If you manage your time well, you will feel organized and will commit less mistakes in the exam.

USE SMART GUESSWORK

While solving the JEE Mains examination paper, you can’t follow your intuitions blindly. You should use the smart guesswork process where you can get the correct option by eliminating the other wrong options. You can use the method of substitution where you have to put the values given in the options and mark the right answer.

MISTAKE IN CALCULATION

Calculations mistakes are the most common type of silly mistake that every student makes at the time of solving the paper. The students use the correct formula but end up making a calculation error and give the wrong answer.

CONCENTRATE PROPERLY AND RELAX

Appearing for the exam with a proper mindset is essential for the students. You need to relax so that your brain can work fast and you can solve the paper easily. A high level of concentration is required to increase the speed and you will find that you can solve the questions correctly when you are calm and relaxed.

Focus on getting the attempted questions correct rather than attempting for the paper. Build your basics, increase the speed and accuracy, and you are ready to crack the IIT-JEE main exam.
